The Very Rev Frederick William Dwelly MA(Cantab) DD was the inaugural Dean of Liverpool. He was born in 1881 and educated at Queens' College, Cambridge. Ordained in 1907, he began his ecclesiastical career with curacies at St Mary Windermere〔”The Clergy List” London, 1913, Kelly’s〕 and Cheltenham Parish Church. During the Great War, he was a temporary Chaplain to the Forces. Later, he was Vicar of Emmanuel, Southport before becoming a canon residentiary of Liverpool Cathedral.〔Who was Who 1987-1990: London, A & C Black, 1991 ISBN 0-7136-3457-X〕 In 1931, he was appointed to its Deanery, serving for 24 years.
